It’s that time of the week again: let’s explore some more of the benefits of a fruit-and-veg rich diet. This week, we’re talking about carrots. Carrots contain a lot of Vitamin A and antioxidants. Vitamin A contributes to the health of your skin and eyes. This power Vitamin ensures the production of cells and the structure of your skin. Vitamin A also supports and protects your immune system.
Vitamin A is full of a certain substance: beta (carot)ene. This is a substance which makes it possible to get the most out of the vitamins in your body whilst also helping to protect your skin from UV damage. Carrots have the orange color because of this beta carotene. Flavonoids, is a different word for antioxidants. This contracts all of the damaging substances that can harm your tissue and cells and also helps your digestive system. Pretty nice right?!
Before carrots show their beautiful color to the world, they are hidden in the ground. There are several ways to allow carrots to grow and it’s dependent to the seasonality. In spring, summer and autumn carrots grow covered in the ground but also uncovered above the ground. During winter carrots need to be protected from the frost. They need to be covered with plastic foil and hay. Nature makes this vegetable very tasteful and it’s nice to eat this vegetable in different combinations like in a salad or in a healthy juice like our Naturalicious Fountain of Youth juice or The Clean juice.
